Tourist guide to places you shouldn't miss

Must see in Dubai

Dubai, located on the shores of the Persian Gulf, is the largest city in the United Arab Emirates and one of the most unique in the world. This city of the future attracts tourists not only with its luxurious beaches and shopping opportunities, but also with unusual and truly unique architectural solutions, such as the artificial island of Palm Jumeirah and the tallest building on the planet, the Burj Khalifa. In addition, Dubai has many other interesting attractions. The high level of security, clean streets and well-developed service make it an ideal place to travel for both families with children and individual tourists.

Burj Khalifa

The main symbol of Dubai and the UAE is the majestic Burj Khalifa, the tallest and most multi-story building in the world. The skyscraper reaches a height of 828 meters and includes 163 floors, and its spire reaches 180 meters in length. The construction of this grandiose structure began 20 years ago under the supervision of the American architect Adrian Smith. The official opening took place on January 4, 2010, when the skyscraper, previously known as Burj Dubai, was renamed in honor of the President of the UAE Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

There are two observation decks in the tower. The first one, At the Top, is located on the 124th and 125th floors: on the 124th floor there is an open observation deck, and on the 125th floor there is a closed panoramic terrace with electronic telescopes. The second observation deck, At the Top SKY, is located on the 148th floor at an altitude of 555 meters. There is a cozy area with sofas and armchairs, where you are greeted by waiters with drinks and desserts.

Burj Khalifa is open to visitors from 08:30 to midnight. Tickets for the observation decks can be purchased on the official website or at the ticket office at the entrance. At the Top tickets start at AED 179 (approximately $50) for adults, while At the Top SKY tickets start at AED 399 (approximately $110).

Dubai Fountain

The musical fountain, which opened in 2009, is a breathtaking spectacle combining light, sound and water. It is located on an artificial lake next to the Burj Khalifa skyscraper and is considered one of the largest and tallest fountains in the world. Its design uses powerful air cannons, high-pressure pumps and water pumps, allowing jets to rise to a height of up to 150 meters. Spotlights and flickering lights create a “dance of water” effect. Water and music shows with illumination take place every 30 minutes from 18:00 to 23:00 daily.

Dubai Mall

One of the largest shopping and entertainment centers in the world, Dubai Mall offers its visitors more than 1,200 stores, from local traditional shops to premium brands and popular mass markets. Here you can see amazing ways to attract attention, such as “live” installations, unique store designs and even a Formula 1 car, exhibited right in the center of the hall. In addition, the center has a lot of entertainment: an ice rink, a waterfall with divers, a real dinosaur skeleton 25 meters long and 7 meters high, a giant panda, an aquarium with sharks, an entire “Chinese town”, as well as an amusement park for children and many restaurants and cafes. In Dubai Mall, you can easily lose track of time and space, exploring every corner of this giant complex.

Also in the Dubai Mall is a huge indoor oceanarium, which is home to more than 33,000 sea creatures, including tiger sharks and rays. The aquarium contains 10 million liters of water. To feel what it’s like to be inside the aquarium, visitors can walk through a 51-meter-long transparent tunnel. Ticket prices start from AED 199 (approximately $55) for adults and children over 2 years old.

Palm Jumeirah

The famous futuristic artificial islands, shaped like a date palm, are visible even from space. They are connected to the mainland by a 300-meter bridge. These man-made islands are home to luxury hotels, villas, restaurants, shopping centers, and a huge Aquaventure water park with the highest slides in the world.

In addition, there is an observation deck with a stunning view of the city. You can get to the island by monorail or taxi.

Museum of the Future

This is not just a landmark, but a real opportunity to look into the future of humanity and travel to the year 2072. The unique design and shape of the museum, as well as the windows decorated in the style of Arabic calligraphy and illuminated at night, were developed by the architect Sean Killa. The Museum of the Future presents exhibitions on various topics, including space exploration, medicine, climate and ecology, gene pool, diversity of flora and fauna, as well as the development of modern modes of transport. Each topic has a separate level, where you will find themed exhibitions, immersive shows and attractions. The museum is located just 5 minutes from the Emirates Towers metro station and is open daily from 09:30 to 21:00. Ticket prices start from 149 AED (approximately $ 40) for adults and children over 4 years old.

Dubai Marina

A walk along the seven-kilometer promenade located by the artificial canal offers many ways to explore it: you can walk, rent a bike or go on a yacht (the latter option is not that expensive - a walk can be organized for only $ 5). Be sure to pay attention to the famous Cayan Tower - a curved tower in which each of the 75 floors is offset by 1.2 degrees relative to the previous one, creating the effect of rotating the building by 90 degrees from the base to the top. In addition, in this area you can take those very photos in flight over the sandy beaches - look for the office of the parachute attraction Sky Dive Dubai. For a flight with an instructor, special training is not required - only a decent amount of money.

Old city

Just 20 minutes by metro from the center, you will find yourself in an area with no skyscrapers - only markets, stations with wooden boats and narrow streets. The area is famous for its barjeel wind towers - you can explore them by foot or visit the Dubai Museum of Local History, located in the Al Fahidi Fort, built in 1787 - one of the oldest buildings in the city. All the main souks are here, selling gold, spices and fabrics. If you can't get enough of scents, check out the Perfume Museum to learn more about Arabic fragrances.

Don't forget to visit the gold and spice souks! They are located next to each other, so be sure to stop by for souvenirs before heading home. Include saffron, Arabic spices for pilaf and meat (baharat), and, of course, dates in your shopping list. The famous Dubai chocolate that drives all the bloggers crazy is also presented here in a large selection. After shopping, head to the jewelry shops: gold is sold by weight here, so finding budget jewelry will not be difficult. After shopping, take a boat taxi (abru) to ride along the Dubai Creek - the station is located next to the souks.
